Before we get into this, let me tell you a bit about the wave game.\u00a0 It has been along long before most of us have been alive.\u00a0 The look of smooth, sophisticated 360 waves have been a staple of the black community for years.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Most of the time it is because waves are easy to maintain and don\u2019t require a lot of money.\u00a0 All you need is a brush, some grease and a stocking cap.\u00a0 You can get fancy later but those are the bare essentials.<\/p>\n

Often times when you look at older photos of black men they are all wearing waves.\u00a0 I\u2019m talking about after the 1960\u2019s and the whole \u201cblack power\u201d movement.\u00a0 Back then brothers wore afros proudly.\u00a0 I don\u2019t knock afros.\u00a0 It\u2019s my second favorite look to 360s.\u00a0 Im known to grow out a mean fro once or twice a year myself.\u00a0 But getting back to my point.\u00a0 After civil rights and everything, brothers decided that rocking afros really weren\u2019t the style anymore and waves started to become a dominant hairstyle.\u00a0 Along with the curl, fade, \u201cmushroom\u201d, the \u201cgumby\u201d and a host of other hairstyles that LOST the test of time.<\/p>\n

So how do you get 360\u2019s? First thing is first you need to get a low cut.\u00a0 This is because you have to retrain your hair from the bottom as it grows out.\u00a0 Your hair is already used to however you rock it now\u2026 you have to undo whatever you are rocking now.<\/p>\n

If you are of African descent you know that your hair is VERY curly.\u00a0 It naturally grows in a \u201cS\u201d pattern.\u00a0 So when you grow it long each strand tends to get caught on other strands and they nap up.\u00a0 Well when you wave up this problem kind of goes away.\u00a0 Brushing your hair in the 360 wave pattern causes it to lay down, this laying the \u201cS\u201d pattern of your hair strand flat on your head.\u00a0 When all of your hair lays down like this, it forms the waves.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

After you get a fresh cut and brush you\u2019ll want to add some moisturizer to your hair.\u00a0 This helps your hair lay flat with your head and not nap up.\u00a0 You can get a product called pink lotion or carrot creme for this.\u00a0 Test both and see which one is the best for your hair.\u00a0 If your hair is thick like mine you may not be able to wash out certain moisturizers so it is important to test, test, test!<\/p>\n

Last and final step, preserve your hairstyle. But how do you do that you ask? Two ways.\u00a0 First is hair grease.\u00a0 This is hard, wax that you can put in your hair to hold it.\u00a0 I only recommend this for parties or special occasions as it is very annoying to have to wash out sometimes.\u00a0 Finally, wear a wave cap or stocking cap when you sleep do you don\u2019t knock your new hair pattern lose while you sleep!<\/p>\n
